Lake Baikal in Siberia, the deepest lake on Earth with 20% of the world’s unfrozen freshwater, has long been a place of mystery. At a depth of 50m (150ft), Russian military divers encountered 3m (9ft) tall aquatic beings, who had silvery suits and strange helmets. All was fine until the divers tried to capture one of the beings, after which they defensively propelled the divers to the surface, some of whom died from decompression sickness.
