The Nazi Government had contradictory views on sexuality. On the one hand, it tried to assert strict control over all its citizens' sexual activity. On the other hand, it promoted promiscuity in some ways, wanting Aryan women to breed as quickly as possible. SS leader Himmler claimed that traditional marriage was incompatible with the aspirations of the Aryans to reproduce rapidly and gain an advantage over the Slavic world; for the Nazis, the best marriage was the one that produced the most children of pure Aryan race as future Third Reich citizens, not necessarily a marriage founded on love. For this reason, the Nazis also despised gays and lesbians.
