Jim Jones, the charismatic cult leader of the People's Temple, took his following down to the South American jungle, to the country of Guyana. In 1978, this became the site of what appears to be mass mind control experimentation, courtesy of the CIA. Congressman Leo Ryan, who introduced a 1974 amendment that gave Congress the power of veto over the CIA's covert missions, was murdered, and after his death, that amendment was quashed. The Guyanese chief medical examiner said the evidence showed that 700 victims were murdered (by gunfire and injection). Mass suicide or mass murder? You decide.
