The word subliminal comes from Latin roots and literally means "below the threshold." Subliminal programming is when hidden meanings are placed in some form of media – TV, music, art, etc. – and subconsciously conveyed to viewers without them realizing it. In TV, this could mean injecting hidden frames into the footage which are 1/1000th of a second.
