Resistance to Civil Government, Civil Disobedience for short, was published in 1849 and is Henry David Thoreau's primary essay on how the average person should interact with government. Thoreau highlights how vital it is for a person to follow their conscience over the law. He encourages people to disobey the system, points out how the state is inherently prone to corruption and even reminds us that personal endangerment may be needed in order to set things right. This essay was an inspiration to activists such as Gandhi and MLK. Not to be missed.
