Joseph Smith was the founder of the Mormon cult, known as the Latter Day Saints. Smith claimed that his church was the only true church and that he was descended directly from Jesus. However, Smith was deeply involved in Freemasonry and it is reported that he rose from a 1st degree to a Sublime degree Freemason in only 1 day. Much of Mormon initiation ritual and art is copied from freemasonry, such as the all-seeing eye, beehive symbolism, Masonic hand signs and Masonic regalia (aprons). The first 5 Mormon presidents were all Masons.
